History - Milan World Expo 2015 - Expo Milano 2015

On 31 October 2008, Milan won the bid to host Expo 2015 with 86 votes against 65 for Izmir (Turkey).

The theme of this exhibition is "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life", and it aims to include everything related to food, from the problem of undernourishment in some parts of the world, to nutrition, to the issue of GMOs.

But behind this utopian vision lie many difficulties. Since March 2014, the revelation of obscure affairs has tainted the city with suspicions of corruption, despite the very strict controls that govern the organisation of the event.

Despite the problems of corruption and construction delays, the Expo opened on time on 1 May.

On the fringes of the opening, anti-Expo protesters clashed with the police, spoiling the party a bit.
