At Cape Sounion, one of the most famous sites in Greece, the pristine whiteness of the marble columns of the Temple of Apollo stands out against the deep blue of the Aegean Sea. From the same waves on the coast of Cyprus, Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty, has emerged. These two figures from the Olympian Pantheon symbolise the Greek love for the sea and remind us that Greece "stands on the sea".
Today, Greece is a developed country, member of the EEC. Agriculture, tourism, industry and shipping are the main sectors of its economy. In the field of civilisation, the country continues its glorious tradition thanks to figures such as Mitropoulos (the first director of the New York Metropolitan Opera), Maria Callas (the famous soprano), Seferis and Eytis (Nobel Prize for poetry), among many others.
In the field of tourism, Greece offers its hospitality to millions of tourists who come to enjoy its traditional beauty in an environment of convenience and serenity.
