The Italica Gate opened onto the perspective of the Path of Discoveries, the main axis of the Expo, where three main themes linked the past and the future: "Before 1492", "From 1492 to 1992" and "Beyond 1992". This huge shell, this "Diadem", was named after the city founded in 206 BC by Scipio the African, and which was the home of the two greatest Roman emperors, Trajan and Hadrian.
