Pacific Islands Pavilion - Expo Aichi 2005

At the Pacific Islands pavilion, 11 countries (Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu) scattered throughout the South Pacific joined together to present the life and culture of their people under the theme "The Beautiful Pacific". There were many symbolic examples and aspects of life in the South Pacific depicted throughout the pavilion.
"Kalia" is a large travel canoe brought from Tonga. It beautifully depicts the Tongan mastery of the seas over many millennia. "A Samoan fale is a traditional Samoan house consisting of only a roof and posts, and this display was an interpretation of a larger original oval structure. Colourful cultural items and rich traditions were also well presented, such as wooden and stone coins, traditional sea maps, unique fishing tools from each country and so on.
