In December 2003, a "magnetic levitation train" of JR Central Railways achieved the world speed record of 581 km/h with a human-operated train on the Yamanashi Linear Experimental Line. The train, which looks like it is flying out of the JR Central Railway Pavilion, is the MLX01-1, the lead car of the superconducting magnetic levitation train that achieved the world record.
The theme of the JR Central Railway Pavilion is: "Superconducting Linear Motor Train Takes Off! - Beyond the threshold of existing surface transport systems". This pavilion aims to convey to the world and to the future, the advanced Japanese technology of superconducting magnetic levitation trains for which the fundamental technology has already been achieved.
The 3-D Showroom first features a pre-show of about 7 minutes, presenting the history of the railway that led to the practical application of the superconducting magnetic levitation train system. This show includes information about this technological innovation, as well as the social context. It will be presented on a 150-inch screen.
The next main show is an approximately 12-minute documentary about the superconducting magnetic levitation train, presented dynamically in high definition on a giant 800-inch 3D screen 10 metres high and 18 metres wide. Visitors will be able to see the magnetic levitation of the train, which will then pass like an arrow over their heads at a speed of 500 km/h. They will also be able to hear real sound and watch breathtaking images of a superconducting magnetic levitation train in action.
Next up is the MLX01-1 superconducting magnetic levitation train. This is the very train that achieved the world speed record of 581 km/h on the Yamanashi Linear Experimental Line. Visitors will be able to enter the bogie equipped with superconducting magnets, appreciate, among other things, the lightweight design that has taken full account of air flow resistance. Don't hesitate to climb aboard!
Finally: The Superconducting Technology Laboratory. In this area, visitors will be able to learn in an entertaining way about Japan's advanced superconducting magnetic levitation train technology. The launch of a spacecraft model using a high-temperature superconducting magnet of the world's highest caliber, as well as levitation with superconducting, will be presented here and will allow visitors to experience the power and miracle of superconducting.
Three independent entrances lead to the 3D Showroom, the MLX01-1 Magnetic Levitation Superconducting Train and the Superconducting Technology Laboratory respectively, allowing visitors to choose the order in which they wish to view the displays.
Visit the JR Central Railway Pavilion and travel the world at 500 km/h.
