Portugal centres the contents of its pavilion on its three most important rivers: the Duero, the Tagus and the Guadiana. This main theme develops as a metaphor from the birth to the mouth, always different but maintaining a strong and characteristic personality. Thus, the exhibition script, the architecture, the concept, the artistic participation and the scientific data merge into a unique discourse that allows the total immersion of the visitor. The two basic public spaces of the enclosure (the exhibition area and Portugal Compartilha) define two different moments and attitudes towards the same proposal. The exhibition is divided into three rooms. Alert, Awareness and Change, which propose a journey through the real environmental problems, the responsibility of the human being in front of them and, finally, the idea for a better and more considerate future. The Portugal Compartilha area, on the other hand, is actually a cell inside the enclosure with its own entrance and programming. This multifunctional space is the scene of multiple cultural, social and commercial exchanges. In this way, the visitor can witness demonstrations of Portuguese culture in its different aspects, as well as discussions and debates with national specialists in water resources.
