The delightful title given to the presentation proposed by the Republic of Cameroon, "the message of the spirits of water", gives a foretaste of what awaits visitors inside the pavilion. The setting created for the Zaragoza Expo is a mystical forest bathed in rain and fog, which creates a special atmosphere that will delight the senses. Thanks to the messages on the panels and the information about the water region, visitors can discover the rituals linked to this resource, which play a fundamental role in the beliefs of the Cameroonian civilisation. On the Cameroonian coast, the Mengu, the water spirits, are believed to rule the ocean, rivers and lakes. There are many myths, stories and ceremonies in this country surrounding these spirits. Likewise, mermaids are worshipped as good luck. Once a year, at the beginning of the dry season, the city of Douala hosts the Ngondo Festival, the most famous and popular event related to the Mengu. Dances, competitions and other ceremonies follow one another before culminating in a dazzling climax: a spirit worshipper enters the Wouri River with a vase to visit the Mengu. It is said that, traditionally, the immersion time under water is particularly long. The worshipper finally emerges with a message from the ancestors in the vessel, which is immediately communicated to the crowd. We invite you to immerse yourself in the messages of the spirits at the Cameroon pavilion.
