The collective pavilion of the Chinese provinces is built on the extension of the base of the China Pavilion and highlights the main building by uniting with it.

The participants of the collective pavilion include 31 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities under the central authority.

Under the theme of the 2010 Expo "Better City, Better Life", they develop the theme in different aspects to present the cultural character, urban aspect and beautiful life prospects of their city.


Beijing Pavilion

Beijing's charm is constantly changing. All its charm is due to its change of every day and month.

The Temple of Heaven, the Water Cube, the National Grand Theatre, the Bird's Nest...

The changing shape of the pavilion fully reveals the charms of Beijing as a people's city, a high-tech city and a green city.

Inside, you can find out what happened in an alley in Beijing, see the Chang'an Avenue scene in real time and watch the film "The Charms of the Capital" directed by Zhang Yimou.

The original exhibition techniques show the liveliness, charm and competitiveness of Beijing as an international city in different aspects.


Tianjin Pavilion

The Tianjin pavilion adopts the elements of a small western-style building in its appearance, revealing Tianjin as a place of cross-cultural mixing. It is divided into five exhibition spaces: "Introduction Space", "Theme Space", "Ecological Protection Space", "High Technology Space" and "Conclusion Space".

The exhibition shows the rapid development of Tianjin and its exploration in the harmonious development of the new coastal district, as well as the city's habits and customs.


Hebei Pavilion

Surrounded by transparent glass, the pavilion has five interacting geometrical volumes inside; this design is inspired by internal painting, a typical art of the Hebei province.

The five interrelated geometric volumes form an integral organism like a DNA chain, symbolising the geographical, historical and cultural links between Hebei and Beijing.

The exhibition also exhibits the cultural spirit and aesthetic taste of Hebei and paints the future of the Bohai Economic Zone.


Shanxi Pavilion

The pavilion's appearance is distinguished by the design of the "gate tower", a symbol of the wisdom of the Shanxi people in ancient times.

Energy-saving ecological charcoal bricks and LED lights form the designs of the pavilion's outer walls.

The exhibition shows the cultural heritage, intangible heritage of Shanxi province, as well as the customs of the Yellow River and the Taihangshan region.

The pavilion is divided into three areas: "Historical and Cultural Aspect - the Way of the City", "Energies - the Light of the City" and "Harmony - the Dream of the City". By combining the traditional elements of the region with the technical means of exhibition, the history and culture, the new aspect of economic and social development and the prospects of the province's development are presented.


Inner Mongolia Pavilion

The pavilion displays the steppe civilization in an original way in the urban development through such elements of the grassland culture as the hada silk piece, the yurt, the auspicious clouds, and the saddle.

The floor of the pavilion is the result of the superposition of sand in three different states, which means that the people of Inner Mongolia have the intelligence to make sand useful; the contrast between Gureyen, the oldest nomadic dwelling area, and the modern city provides an insight into the process of development of the grassland city; the tree made of floating sand in the shape of the poplar tree suggests the environmental transformation, the dream of making the desert an oasis.


Liaoning Pavilion

The pavilion takes the form of metal materials and blue sets the tone, representing the strength of steel and the softness of the sea.

Above the entrance is a simulated model of the Sinosauropteryx in flight.

The pavilion displays the world's first flying bird and the fossil of the world's first flower, the Six Great Cultural Heritages and the 200 champions won by Liaoning for economic development.

The 4D 360° cinema introduces the coastal economic zone of the province and the Shenyang economic zone; the multimedia film vividly and directly displays the charms of 14 cities and their technology, culture, art, sports and customs.


Jilin Pavilion

The pavilion's appearance combines elements such as the Tianchi Lake, the forest and the mountain garden, showing the natural aspect of Jilin Province and the concept of the green city as a pleasant place to live.

The image of the forest, the assembly of the digital green concept car, the driving of the "Concorde" train, the 4D cinema to experience the frost of the Changbai Range, all remain very endearing to visitors.


Heilongjiang Pavilion

The pavilion's vertical exterior surfaces form a landscape simulating an ice sculpture by adopting a crystalline resin.

Around the snow and ice, the pavilion presents the green ecology, snow and ice tourism, humanistic spirit of Heilongjiang, to show the life scene of the people who live happily in a fantastic snow and ice kingdom.

The interior landscape of the pavilion bears the elements of snow, ice and stalactite cavity; below the ambient temperature, one feels the comforts and coolness.

On the simulated sled, visitors can watch the panoramic film and ethnic colour performances and also take part in curling and ski interaction games.


Jiangsu pavilion

The pavilion has the idea of exhibiting its garden and creates a virtual garden space in a lively way.

All exhibition activities show Jiangsu's openness and dynamism, its long history, culture, high-tech achievements marked by the "Internet of things", photovoltaic industry, biopharmaceutical industry, and especially the quintessence of "ideal garden".


Zhejiang Pavilion

The interior design of the pavilion is the abstraction of a blue and white porcelain bowl and water as a colossal bowl overflowing with water with projected images of the Western Lake and the tide of the Qiantang River.

The pavilion is divided into four exhibition areas: "Mountain-River-City Coexistence", "City Development with History", "City-Countryside Interaction" and "Life and Ideal in Contact".

They present a model of urban development characterised by the comprehensive planning of town and country.


Anhui Pavilion

The pavilion's central theme is to exhibit the core idea of Anhui culture characterized by "openness, progress, innovation, harmony and honesty" in urban development.

It is divided into two exhibition areas: "Anhui Impression" and "Colourful City", which provide a panoramic view of Anhui, linking its history, present and future.

The "Anhui Impression" showcases the calligraphy demonstration and the civil habitat of the province; "Colourful City" displays the fantastic colours of the city.


Fujian Pavilion

The pavilion is shaped like a boat and "green, blue and white" set the major tone; it is a charming Fujian, a pleasant place to live, where mountains, cities, sea, blue sky and white clouds merge harmoniously.

The pavilion is divided into four exhibition areas: real landscapes, interaction, performances and masterpieces.

The exhibition develops the theme of the pavilion around "Opening Front", "Cross-strait Connection" and "Harmonious Home", and fully displays the achievements of the economy, society, technology, culture and urban construction of Haixi, the economic zone on the western shore of the Taiwan Strait.


Jiangxi Pavilion

The pavilion takes the form of a Blue and White porcelain vessel; the white glaze and classic blue patterns suggest Jiangxi abundant in treasures and talents.

From the ecological point of view, the pavilion presents the natural landscapes, cultural richness, pursuit of science and new perspectives of development of Jiangxi Province.

Under the theme of "Ecological Landscapes, Ecological Projects and Ecological Cities", it shows visitors that Jiangxi is taking the path of sustainable development to create a new life for the harmonious coexistence of man and nature, including the example of the construction of the Poyang Lake Ecological and Economic Zone.


Shandong Pavilion

The pavilion takes the shape of Mount Taishan in eastern China and adopts the image of waves at its side, which outlines the relief of Shandong and depicts its culture born and developed in such geographical conditions.

The entrance to the pavilion, which was designed to be wide open, suggests the warmth and hospitality of the land of Confucius, who said, "Is it not a great joy to have friends from far away lands?

The three exhibition spaces "The Wisdom Gallery", "The City Showcase" and "The Home of Shandong" showcase a cultural, charming and hospitable Shandong and the future life of city dwellers; they highlight the urban philosophy characterized by the Confucian thought "harmony does not discard diversity or difference".


Henan Pavilion

Citing Henan's urban evolution, the pavilion lists facts to explain Henan's contributions to the development of Chinese civilization, reveals the inspiration and driving force whose historical achievements are used for the future development and foresees the future urban harmony of the province.

The exhibition areas are "Origin of China's Urban Civilization", "Physionomy of Henan" and "Urban Prosperity" respectively.


Hubei Pavilion

The pavilion takes the form of the Chinese character "water" of the calligraphic style "zhuanshu", giving the impression that a river is flowing naturally; a phoenix motif, a typical sign of Hubei province, adorns and enlivens the pavilion.

The theme of the pavilion is to present the history of urban development, the interdependence of water and man and the intimate links between water and the city.

The main exhibition space takes advantage of the circular curtain, the gauze curtain and the 3D curtain to highlight the idea that "the history of water is the history of the city, and the history of the city is just our history".


Hunan Pavilion

The pavilion takes the form of the "Möbius strip".

On this curved strip with no beginning and no end, images of Hunan's history and beautiful future prospects are reflected, suggesting that man will never stop pursuing his ideal.

The exhibition areas "Nature", "Future" and "Humanism" show the natural landscapes of Hunan and decipher the urban form of the future - Garden Paradise, which will take into consideration ecological protection, pleasant living environment, circular energy use and sustainable development.

The "Humanism" space shows the scenes of the future city in the imagination of children.


Guangdong Pavilion

The pavilion takes the form of the "qilou" architecture typical of Guangdong province, also adopting the paper cut art of Chaozhou and Shantou.

This building plays on the interplay of full and hollow and combines the local style with the European style to bring out the character of Guangdong.

"Green Life", "Green City" and "Green Myth", these three exhibition spaces take advantage of high-tech means and fantastic design art to present the pursuit of green life and the beautiful scene of Guangdong's green life.


Guangxi Pavilion

The pavilion takes the shape of osmanthus, in addition to the shape of the "Elephant's Horn" mountain, which exhibits the natural ecological landscape that evokes the mountain and the green river, the songs of birds and the fragrance of flowers.

At the entrance of the pavilion, the robot disguised as a Zhuang girl is responsible for welcoming the visitors.

The pavilion uses various means such as sand trays, models and videos to present the theme.

The bronze drums and the embroidered balls in pictures are very original.


Hainan Pavilion

The pavilion is designed according to Hainan's character of "holiday paradise, liveable island and special opening area", using high technology digital projection and fairy-tale gauze curtain.

The whole pavilion looks crystal clear, fantastic and romantic.

The seascapes, tropical fruits, simple customs, pleasant living environment, the spirit of the go-getters in the special exhibition area allow visitors to discover the charms of Hainan: sunshine, leisure, holidays, pleasant living environment, longer life expectancy, gentleness, safety, harmony, innovation.


Sichuan Pavilion

The shape of the pavilion is based on the mountains and rivers of Sichuan.

The architect adopts two layers of spaces; the double curved surface of the outer layer takes the modern metal form, it envelops the inner layer which serves as a stereoscopic light circular wall in nature images.

From the visual point of view, the chiselling process is adopted to express the harmonious cohabitation between the city and nature.

In the splendour of the history and culture of the divine bird of the sun, visitors are led into a "rich heavenly universe" of calm, beauty and harmony, where visitors can experience the mountains, rivers, people and soul of Sichuan.

Three exhibition areas display urban history and civilization, urban wisdom respecting nature, and the future beautiful life of Sichuan respectively.


Guizhou Pavilion

The pavilion has a large-scale appearance, bringing together the typical visual elements of Guizhou such as the covered bridge, the Gulou building, the Miao ethnic village, the mountain, the river and the waterfall.

The architect hyperbolically borrows the silver headdresses of the ethnic minority girls of Guizhou in the building to represent the ethnic customs of the province.

The pavilion presents the picturesque natural landscapes and treasures of Guizhou, and sketches the future city with efficient transport networks and the Internet, where man and nature live together in harmony.


Yunnan Pavilion

The pavilion is divided into city, town and village exhibition areas.

The building absorbs the artistic characters of ethnic architecture such as the symbolic architecture of Yunnan, Jinmafang, the habitat of the Bai ethnic group and the bamboo house of the Dai ethnic group, and also brings together typical Yunnan elements such as "bronze in the shape of an ox and a tiger" and "red stoneware pottery from Jianshui".

The pavilion's exhibition themes are "Seagulls fly over the spring city", "The appearance of the city", "International passage" and "The beautiful village landscape".

The multimedia means allow visitors to know the beautiful natural environment, the picturesque ethnic culture, as well as the aspect of harmonious urban and rural development of Yunnan.


Tibet Pavilion

The pavilion's exhibition focus is "New Tibet, its new development, new life and new change".

The exhibition has a concept of "ecological protection, heritage of ethnic culture, creation of a better life and sustainable development in Tibet".

With the images of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, interactive street scenes and short films, the special charm of Tibet, the dynamic spirit and patriotic feeling of the people in Tibet and their beautiful perspective to build a Tibet of ease, peace and harmony are displayed.


Shaanxi Pavilion

The pavilion is distinguished by its Tang palace style.

The pavilion brings back the scene of life in which the imperial garden became the home of the people, presenting the Huaqing Imperial Pool, the Huaqing Palace and the poem Eternal Regret.

The themed exhibition "Millennium Capital", "Quintessence of Literature", "Qinling Chain" and "Group Dance" shows the world the civilization, modern city life and natural scenery of Shaanxi; two robots, Emperor Tangminghuang and his concubine Yang Guifei, can communicate with the visitors; on site, one can watch the Tang customs and dance performances


Gansu Pavilion

The pavilion's appearance combines LED lights in groups with models restoring real objects, and takes advantage of Dunhuang's artistic elements to display the greatness of Gansu culture.

The pavilion focuses on the grandeur, decline and rebirth of cities on the Silk Road.

The exhibition areas "Song of the City", "Heroic Song" and "New Charm" focus on the history of Dunhuang's brilliant culture, the civilisation of the emerging city and the idea of sustainable development based on the circular economy.

Inside, the reproduction of the Dunhuang art caves allows visitors to truly feel like they are in the Dunhuang caves.


Qinghai Pavilion

The pavilion is based on the central idea of the exhibition "Qinghai is the source of the three rivers", which are the Yangtze River, the Yellow River and the Lancangjiang River, and introduces the contribution of the three rivers to urban civilization, while revealing the ecological situation of the basins of the three rivers and the relationship between the rivers and urban development.

Inside, "Birthplace of the Mother River", "Family in the Source Place of the Rivers", "First Drop of Water", "Green World", etc. are presented. All the exhibition activities include introducing people to the ecological concept, reflecting on the relationship between existence and development, and the ideal of ecological civilization of contemporaries.


Ningxia Pavilion

The appearance of the pavilion represents the features of the varied terrain and multicultural fusion of Ningxia.

The outer surfaces of the pavilion have curved lines in motion.

Using the arched door as ornamentation, the pavilion bears elements of Islamic architecture.

The spaces "The sky of Ningxia", "The phoenix sings on the border fortress", "The serenity of the soul makes it possible to achieve more", show the richness and beauty of Ningxia and a new, open, colourful and dynamic Ningxia.


Xinjiang Pavilion

The exterior walls of the pavilion absorb elements of Xinjiang architecture.

The pavilion comes alive with cultural signs, colour combinations and abstract artistic signs.

The curved lines suggest the beautiful dancing silk and the contours of the dune.

The theme "Xinjiang is a beautiful region" reflects the outspokenness of its people.

The areas "Come to Xinjiang", "Xinjiang of Harmony" and "Xinjiang of Sweetness" allow visitors to discover all the charms of Xinjiang.


Shanghai Pavilion

The pavilion takes its design inspiration from the Shikumen style of architecture.

Its design is simple but expressive, and its form is sober but modern; this corresponds perfectly to the character of Shanghai, a city that reconciles solemnity and liveliness, antiquity and modernity, Chinese culture and Western culture.

The theme of the exhibition "A New World Forever" is to present a more charming, tolerant, open and intelligent Shanghai and to explain what "Better City, Better Life" means to Shanghai.
