The cluster, with a total surface area of 7,304 m2 and an exhibition area of 2,625 m2, tells in a simple and immediate way the spirit of Mediterranean cuisine, the value and meaning of meeting, sharing and integration: the narrative coincides with the history of countries and peoples, and evokes an atmosphere made up of colours, flavours and aromas, which blend together in a unique cultural experience. The Sicilian Region is an official partner of Expo Milano 2015 for the Bio-Mediterranean Cluster. The project, which is inspired by the image of the Mediterranean city, is developed around a large half-covered square, which houses four structures dedicated to the distribution of products typical of this geographical area. The chromatic gradation of the floor, made up of various shades of blue, evokes all the nuances of the sea that bathes the nations present in the cluster.
The coloured space that brings together the pavilions of the different countries like islands evokes the Mediterranean.
In the central area of the cluster, the traditional outdoor kitchens are a focal point.
They offer visitors a selection of products typical of Mediterranean cuisine: olive oil, bread and wine.
In this area it is possible to watch the preparation of food and scheduled culinary shows.
