The main theme of the Japan pavilion is the evolution of transport and shows the place of transport development in human evolution in general.

The geography and the particular characteristics of its people have shaped Japan's transport history. The country's pavilion highlights the beneficial effects of transport technology on culture and public welfare in Japan and the role of transport technology in the advancement of world civilization and culture.

The 2,000-square-metre area bounded by the Japan pavilion and the HSST station is known as the Japan Square. In this open and pleasant square, visitors can attend events of all kinds. The Japan Pavilion features, among other things, ceremonies and folklore performances that reflect Japan's rich cultural heritage.
