Indian composer AR Rahman gained international acclaim with his Oscar-winning score for Slumdog Millionaire.
Developed exclusively for Expo 2020, the Firdaus Orchestra is a visionary ensemble of 50 female musicians from the Arab world, mentored and directed by Rahman.
Firdaus - which means "paradise" in Arabic - will perform both an original composition by Rahman and a fusion of global melodies, with an emphasis on Emirati musical traditions.
With a contemporary design, AR Rahman's Firdaus Studio, inspired by the purity of melody and harmony, will serve as a base for the Firdaus Orchestra as well as guest artists from around the world. This world-class rehearsal space will become a permanent part of the future District 2020 city by the end of Expo 2020.
