In 2018, 15 international teams of university students came together for the inaugural Solar Decathlon Middle East, a competition - organised by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) - to build the solar home of tomorrow.

Check out the Virginia Tech team's "FutureHAUS Dubai", as well as other smart projects at the DEWA pavilion.

Built from prefabricated "cartridges", the FutureHAUS Dubai house is completely independent of the electricity grid. From the solar roof to the temperature-controlled entrance, the house has been designed to maximise efficiency and provide many futuristic touches.

This compact ecological wonder gives visitors a glimpse of how we might live tomorrow.

FutureHAUS Dubai takes the form of a simple white rectangle, built from nine structural cartridges with a slightly overhanging roof.

As well as maximising efficiency, it contains many futuristic touches, including a delivery hatch for drones and a weight measuring bathroom floor.
