Colombia - Expo Chicago 1893

Colombia at the Exhibition Expo Chicago 1893

This small baroque pavilion is in the Italian Renaissance style and measures 14 m2 .

On either side are conservatories filled with rare tropical plants that give it the appearance of larger dimensions.

The first floor is occupied by a remarkable collection of very valuable antiquities excavated from prehistoric tombs in Colombia, including gourds, human images, helmets, trumpets, cuirasses, necklaces, bracelets, anklets, etc., all in pure gold. There are also mummies and other objects.

There are also mummies and a large collection of ancient pottery.

The building is topped by a glass dome above which is perched a condor, the emblematic bird of Colombia.

On each side of the dome a group of three figures supports a globe and a pole bearing the national colours, yellow, blue and red.

There are other symbolic and interesting decorations, and the small building is also visited by many people.
